Description
Known for its rich cultural heritage, in July 2011, Guingamp was designated a Town of Art and History. Former feudal town on the edge of the Trieux river, a town of traders and craftsmen, Guingamp prospered during the 14th and 15th centuries. Don't miss: the remains of the medieval castle, the Basilica of Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours (12th - 16th centuries); Place du Centre: fine stone houses (5 centuries of architecture), the richly decorated Renaissance fountain 'La Plomée'; the 15th and 16th century timber-framed houses, 17th - 18th century monasteries, and the prison (1841). Guided tours of the town in July and August (from Tuesday 3 July - Saturday 18 August 2012). Breton Dance Festival: La Saint-Loup, week of the 15 August.
